Flint and Tinder

Flint and Tinder started as a men's underwear brand made exclusively in the USA. Founded in 2012, it was the highest-funded Kickstarter campaign at the time. Built on the belief that high-quality clothing could be made in small batches right here in the United States and supported by a crowd-funded model. The brand quickly expanded into a full men’s clothing line. The collection grew to include t-shirts, socks, hoodies, denim, button-ups, jackets, and pants.

I joined the company in 2012 as one of five employees and played a key role in building the brand. I designed all touchpoints, including apparel graphics, packaging, emails, photography, and a new website, among other responsibilities. In 2016, Flint and Tinder was sold. This is a collection of the work I contributed during my time with the brand.

COLLABORATORS

Greg Mionske - Photographer

Apparel Design

Every component of Flint and Tinder’s apparel, including size labels, patches, buttons, rivets, and more, was custom-designed in-house and manufactured in the USA. Below are examples of the proposed designs and their final implementation on the product.

Packaging Design

We designed all of Flint and Tinder’s packaging, which encompasses shipping boxes, product boxes, stickers, custom packing tape, and more. By collaborating directly with the manufacturer, we identified sustainable and cost-effective materials to ensure a fully branded experience for our customers.

Web + Marketing

I directed all photoshoots which were done in-house and on location in NYC, providing a consistent supply of fresh, high-quality images for our product launches.

The creation of a pre-funding platform on flintandtinderusa.com streamlined product and cost management, resulting in significant operational savings. This model was primarily marketed through email, allowing production to align almost exactly with demand.
